About OneChord

Learning the guitar is no overnight feat (I’ve been trying on and off for over 20 years now!).

The hardest part for me is actually picking up the guitar. Every time I look up at the wall, I can see it hanging there, begging me to play it, but I rarely do.

It’s the thought of finding a tab to play, or time to watch a video that drives my attention elsewhere.

That’s where I got the idea for OneChord.

OneChord is a minimal single-page web app that works across most devices (no excuses) and generates a random chord for you to play.

There are lots of tools out there that offer chords-a-plenty, but most require a login, an app install, or they are cluttered with ads to the point of being distracting.

OneChord is the equivalent of a distraction-free editor, but for a single chord. Just browse to the site and pick up your guitar.🎸

OneChord - YouTube Shorts

This year, after adding over 100 chords to the site, I started uploading YouTube Shorts.

For several reasons, really:

1. I wanted a way to hear the chord, so I could decide if it was something I wanted to learn. Handy if you have a track in mind.
2. I’d been looking for ways to notify anyone interested in learning a new chord, like mailing lists, but I wanted something less intrusive and frictionless. YouTube runs on most devices, including your TV, which is where I get a lot of my inspiration.
3. It forced me to pick up the guitar and record the chords, selfish I know!
